Project Stack Overview0:00
I have a fun little idea for an application, so why don't we use Laravel, Livewire, Volt, Alpine, and maybe even throw in a reverb there for some real-time events and interaction, and join future me taking a look at the application that we'll build together, and then you can follow me along on this journey from taking this idea for an application, and building, maneuvering, twisting and turning, and iterating along the way. Podcasts are fun, but podcasts are a lot more fun if you have people who also listen to them that you can kind of talk about things with and say, oh, did you hear about, you know, that latest episode of the Laracast snippet? What were your thoughts on that? But you kind of lose out on that real-time interaction. For example, in a YouTube video or a stream, you have that real-time and even the comments in a YouTube video, you know, hey, this person has

you kind of lose out on that real-time interaction. For example, in a YouTube video or a stream, you have that real-time and even the comments in a YouTube video, you know, hey, this person has watched the same information as I am. It's a little bit more synchronous, still asynchronous, but a little bit more. So what if we brought that same feeling that you might have within a live stream, or if you ever have experienced like a watch party, whether digital or like sitting next to your friends on a couch and watching or listening to something together, you have this feeling of, hey, I am learning something new or just experiencing something with someone else next to me, and I want to recreate that digitally. So what would happen if we listen to podcasts together? So we are going to be building this application audio together, enabling you to create these listening parties with people who can then join the listening parties and listen.

together? So we are going to be building this application audio together, enabling you to create these listening parties with people who can then join the listening parties and listen to a new podcast in real time while being able to chat or react to the podcast as you listen. And so this application isn't for those who like to listen to podcasts on 4x, for example, this is for that feeling of I am in community with someone who is listening to the same piece of information as I am. So you just enter a podcast RSS feed, it grabs the latest episode, and you can say, I want to listen to this next week with someone and you can start to schedule a listening party. For example, this one's happening in 41 minutes, so you can be in the listening room waiting and you can join and be ready. You could share that listening party URL. Additionally, we have some background job within the RSS feed to grab the latest episode and just

listening room waiting and you can join and be ready. You could share that listening party URL. Additionally, we have some background job within the RSS feed to grab the latest episode and just sync all this information. So all of this can be done synchronously. We're using Alpine on the front end to sync the podcasts being played. We have live reaction emojis that you can see other people's reactions as well as the ability to log in and chat. So why don't you take this journey with me in building this from start to finish.
